Day 4, Henry is 3, SXSW round 2...

4, 3, 2... Let's do the do!

Day 4 of our NW Tour Video Diaries is up!

And in case you missed it, here's Day One, Day Two, and Day Three!

Henry's 3 year band anniversary is this week!

We're celebrating 3 years of Henry Bermudez up in the Evangenitals by returning to the scene of the crime: SXSW! It was 3 years ago this very week that Henry joined Lisa & I on a gonzo ride to SXSW to play a solo show, and he ended up joining the Evangenitals by the end of the trip. It's been an AMAZING 3 years since Henry joined the band, and we hope that you all will barrage our FB page and Henry himself with some sweet, sweet loving. http://www.facebook.com/evangenitals

Here's a little video of that momentous first show with us from way back in the day. We've come a long way, baby! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKxNY32Zr84

SXSW Round 2:

We're heading down to SXSW for a crazy late night showcase on Saturday night, March 19th! We're playing the "Invasion of the GoGirls" showcase at Trophy's! Click here for the full line up and info: http://www.gogirlsmusic.com/sxsw/

The show will be streamed LIVE online, so you can tune in from ANYWHERE via the amazing INTERNET by going to Ustream, here: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/gogirlsmusic

We'll be meeting up with our drummer, Kristy McInnis down in Texas. She's playing some SXSW shows with her other band The Bluebonnets as well! Check 'em out: http://thebluebonnets.net/

GOOD TIMES, ALL OVER!

Much love,
Juli & The Evangenitals

Happy Anniversay, Henry Bermudez

On Tuesday March 16th we celebrate 2 years of Henry Bermudez as lead guitarist and quality control marshall of the Evangenitals!
It's been a wild and crazy ride, and to anyone who has seen us live in the past couple years, I'm sure it is hard to imagine our good-time gang without our main man (and ONLY man!) Henry Bermudez making magic come out of that nylon string guitar up on the stage.
12:13 In Highland Park To honor the man, the myth, the mega-talent that is Henry, I would like to turn your attention to his personal projects, numerous other bands (past and present), and of course suggest that on Tuesday March 16th you take some time to turn the new Evangenitals EP up to 11 and hold a glass high in the air for Henry, oh Henry!!!
You may also consider:
  • Barraging his Facebook Page with love letters
  • Becoming his friend on Myspace Music
  • Buying his CD 12:13 In Highland Park at CD Baby
  • Making him a card and mail it to the PO Box above
  • Sending him some money (PO Box above) as we can't even come CLOSE to paying him what he's worth
  • - Or, a fine and firm handshake and a "job well done" next time you see him, preferably at a live show, preferably after giving him a tip, or a drink, or a kiss, or something. :-)

And I'm sure you can come up with your own creative ways to let Henry know how awesome and appreciated he is in this world of ours.

The Story:
On March 15th 2008, Lisa Dee and Juli C (aka Evangina, freshly recovered from The 1 Second Film's Road to Oprah tour) set out on a bold adventure to play a fringe show at SXSW in a rented economy car.
Two brave solo travelers accompanied us: Timothy Sellers of Artichoke, and Henry Bermudez of the Henry Bermudez Trio and Unpopable (now Balloon Bass), who had responded to a Myspace bulletin asking if anyone wanted to play a one-off show with us at SXSW-ish.
We played our sweet-ass show on Sunday March 16th at Thunderbird Coffee in Austin, TX... with Henry Bermudez accompanying us on lead guitar for most of the set! (There are several videos of this momentous day on YouTube here, here, and here, by the by)
By the end of the journey, Juli & Lisa were singing backup for the 'Choke and Henry Bermudez was spearheading the resplendent transformation and rebirth of the Evangenitals into the awe-inspiring juggernaut that you experience today!

*** In an astounding bit of foreshadowing and coincidence, our current bassist (and may I say master of The Lee Shore) Laurie Es actually designed the awesome poster for that historically significant SXSW show... who knew she'd be making us so many more great posters down the road, AND be joining the band!?!?

So, today we celebrate! Heck, we'll be celebrating all week long, and then some, to be honest.
Henry Bermudez
It was a glorious day that brought Henry Bermudez into this band, and there isn't a single day that has gone by since he joined that I haven't been overwhelmed with gratitude and good-luck giddiness. Glory be!
It is an honor and a privilege to make music with this man, and I hope you will join us in honoring him on this glorious day, henceforth to be writ into the annals of history!!

Let's hear it for Henry Bermudez!

Huzzah!!! :-)

Much love, more love,
and a little bit of love on the side,

Dawn of Quixote

The play features Shaughn Buchholz (Scrubs) as Quixote, Christopher Goodson (Cold Case) as Sancho, and opera singer Lisa Dee (Killsonic, Evangenitals) as Dulcinea. Live original score is performed by The Evangenitals!!!

Two solid weeks of daytime shows, from August 8th-22nd, are already booked and listed in the official festival program, and the Evangenitals are already booked for night-time gigs & radio spots in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and other locales in the UK ... now we simply need to GET to SCOTLAND!

Other expenses include, room and board while in Edinburgh, construction of scenery, props, and costumes, and covering the basic needs of 9 brave souls willing to take 3 weeks out of their lives to make ART in EDINBURGH! !

WE WILL ONLY receive these donations on Kickstarter IF we hit our $9999 minimum goal... and we only have 48 days in which to do it.... so please help us get there!

Henry Bermudez: The Sweat Chronicles

Evangenitals lead guitarist Henry Bermudez is a WORKING MAN. When he steps on the stage to play guitar, he gives it all he's got. And then some. And he sweats. Seriously. The man SWEATS; hot beads of pure passion and sonic steam. It's a spectacle of hydrological transformation that never fails to amaze me. I've seen the guy play with 3 bands in the same night, in a row, and every set he's soaking wet. Freshly wet. It seems he's ALWAYS got more sweat to give. It's incredible.

So, I thought I'd present the following pictorial as proof of this pheromone phenomenon, and as a tribute to this phenomenal guitar player. Ladies and Gentlemen, Henry Bermudez!

Image 1:
Note the un-sweaty shirt. This is clearly the beginning of the show.

Image 2:
The smallest of spots are starting to show. Check out those mallets David Hurlin's got!

Image 3:
Note the pronounced center sweat spot, and the beginning of the "wild hair" syndrome.

Image 4:
Wild Hair is officially on the loose. Hurlin and Lubow are focused on the business at hand.

Image 5:
Note the body and bounce of the dark locks; the hair is not yet completely drenched. The shirt, however, is a different story.

Image 6:
Now the hair is both wet AND wild.

Image 7:
Final stages of a full-on soggy frenzy. Glory be!

So, let's all raise a glass of cool, precious bodily fluid-replenishing water to this fine young man who brings so much mojo to the art-country hillbilly love punk rock revolution good time gang known as The Evangenitals. Hip hip, hooray!

And be sure to give him a big sloppy hug after the next show. It's quite the experience. :-)

I just found these videos of the Evangenitals at the Eagle Rock Music Festival on YouTube. The sound is pretty awful, however, if you play the album you can watch us prance about and get the feeling of a real, live Evangenitals show. :-)

We are testing out a new form TONIGHT at the Tre Stage in Hollywood - Improv and Evangenitals music TOGETHER. I'll be performing in both of them, I'm terrified, and I'd love for you to be there! :-)

First up in my Improv group Hammerspace at 9pm, perform long-form improv based on whatever suggestions and deep questions you give us. (http://www.myspace.com/hammerspace_improv)

Then, at 10pm the Evangenitals will start to develop our new stage show BEFORE YOUR EYES in this theatrical and intimate setting! We will be taking audience suggestions as well, so bring your keen directorial instincts and help us shape the future of the Evangenitals!

Both of these artistic pursuits work better when there is actually an audience present, so I hope that you may be able to make time in your busy life to come and see our maiden voyage of this new combination!

It all happens TONIGHT - Sunday July 27th -

The Evangenitals present: something old, something new, something borrowed, and some blues

This is an important and intimate night for the Evangenitals and I hope you can join us.

First of all, it's the very first time we're playing at this venue, so we'd like to make a good impression - ideally one that makes us look "happening" and "popular".

Secondly, and more importantly, we're going to be debuting a handful of new, never-before-played tunes, as well as taking a stroll down memory lane and playing some key songs from Evangenital history.

It's going to be a stripped-down, intimate, and melodic evening feature Juli Crockett on lead vocals, Lisa Dee on the harmonies, Henry Bermudez on lead guitar, and David Hurlin on the drums.

For those of you who are fans of the slower side of the Evangenitals, this night will surely provide some soul-food for your aching spots. :-)

I sure hope you can make it. We'd love to share this world premier moment with you!

Much love,
Juli & the Genitals

What's up?

Last Friday night Lisa Dee, myself, (that's Evangina!), guitarist Henry Bermudez, and Timothy Sellers of Artichoke all jumped in a car and drove to Austin to catch a taste of SXSW and play a day show on Sunday. It was a much-need breaking out and breaking away from the day to day, and also a grand display of willingness and mild insanity. The whole thing made me indescribably happy.

Brian and Jerimi, a WONDERFUL couple who restore any lagging faith that any of us could have in humanity and the generosity of the spirit, put us up in Austin and took great care of us. I barely know these folks, and yet they opened their hearts, ears, home, and fridge to us... for fun and for free. Incredible. I also discovered that Austin has free health insurance for musicians and the audiences actually TIP... what am I doing here? I love LA. It's twisted.

It was great to play with Izzy Cox. I've missed her. She is a powerful performer and I look forward to doing more shows with her when she comes out to LA again. We also DEFINITELY plan to return to Austin next year, if not sooner. Now that Henry is going to be playing with us, we are indeed a road-hungry band... we want to play play PLAY and bring the Evangenital joy to every pair of ears that will listen.

I'm going to be posting the photo-journal from the Austin trip on Flickr real soon. I'll post links here when I do.

Tonight we played a fundraiser show with Veruca Salt in downtown LA and we debuted a never-before-seen/heard Evangenitals lineup featuring Joey Ninja of Ninja Academy on bass and the aforementioned Henry Bermudez on lead guitar. It rocked my socks off! I am excited to be revisiting our old tunes with new energy and explore and reinterpret them -- stretch 'em to the snapping point and see what their spine looks like. Constantly changing, exploring, questioning, enjoying, refreshing... I dig it. "The Hole" almost burst into a Reggae jam tonight, people. It was AWESOME!!!

So, the short version is: the flow is flowing once again, the universe is giving me the green light on all things, it seems, and I am revved up and ready to GROW! The party is about to get started, and you're all always invited.

Love, always and already,
Juli
