Alright ya'll... get ready for something dark and stormy.

We're in the song-writing stages, paving the way for our moody, oceanic score of [or, the whale]... julio crockett's poetic-epic-lovestory re-telling of Herman Melville's Moby-Dick, set to go down on the East and West Coast in August 2004.

The West Coast test drive is set to premier at the Hangar 1018 on Friday the 13th, August 2004. There will be music, film, theater, and a bunch of other wackery that night. The Hangar is well-known for its events, and we're pleased to be putting in an appearance there. Lisa Dee has graced their space on more than one occassion already (singing with Killsonic and If) and it's about time the Evangenitals paid the place a visit, en masse.

Immediately following the Hangar experience -- as in, the very next night -- we're playing with Fuzzard and Eagle & Talon at Mr T's Bowl in Highland Park. It's kinda sorta a bit of a farewell party, since we're taking off to Maine the very next day after that for the East Coast Real Deal Big Show Premier of the Full Blown Theatrical Extravaganza:

[or, the whale]

We're performing it in a flippin' CASTLE lookin' CHURCH building, and we're pretty dang excited about it!

Holy Shitballs, folks. We are moving on up, my friends...

At the last El Cid show, freakin' Dwight Yoakam's long-time drummer Jeff Donovan backed us up on Fuzzard's full-size drum kit. Lucky, lucky us. I felt like there was a freight train driving at my back... and it was fucking awesome.

How'd we get so lucky? Jeff Donovan just happens to be a friend and neighbor of our dubious and dastardly bass player Jeff Jones (who doesn't have a computator and is therefore endlessly mussed with, by us, without knowing a dang thing about it).

Donovan wasn't busy that night, so he jumped on board to lay down some serious backbone on Never Again, Gasoline, and our dark and oceanic pirate cover of Ween's Cold Blows the Wind.

The set was dope. The crowd was fly. The Evangenitals were in the groove. So much love all over the place. Ridiculously good times. I was wearing an Evangenitals t-shirt and no shoes, feeling like I was right at home in a REAL band.

Addi (the balloon guy) joined us for our standard pre-show dinner of Mahi-Mahi with a side of organic brown rice and cuban black beans and was amazed to discover that the 'genitals are all actually friends who enjoy each other's company. It's pretty surreal. We all work together in a rather untraditional office-space, we all live together in the Echo Street complex in Highland Park, California, USA.

Highland Parque -- lovingly called the "HP" by those in the know -- as the neighborhood itself emits a Higher Power Spirit Vibe that has the ability to save souls and soothe savage peoples. It also has 3 tacos for a dollar joints, a $4 movie theater, a secret lake up in the hills, the Southwest Museum (LA's oldest museum, which could always use your support), and the infamous Mr T's Bowl.

The greatest place on earth. Just for today. Come on down.

well, julio is back from school-time in switzerland, and the pictures are just starting to make their way online!

the school was great, the mountains were lovely, the water was fresh and the air was clean. she didn't talk on the phone for a month. she read nietzsche and studied deleuze with manuel delanda. freud with sam webber. film with claude lanzmann, claire denis, and the guy that made the Tin Drum. she met jean baudrillard, and called him a nostalgic old poot.

julio also happened to meet the irish writer-man Colum McCann up there in the mountains, and the feller impressed her so much she wrote an anthem about the guy. he took some pictures of julio and her guitar. she organized a few hoe-downs and hootenannys up there in the hills, and spread the good evangenitals feeling all over that neutral land.

we got a whole heap of shows coming up, and a bunch of new swiss alps-inspired songs.

listen for it at the El Cid gig on July 5th. it's gonna be a good'un. we're playing with Fuzzard, Las Panchas, Eric Layer, Linister and Addi Somekh (the balloon guy).

get ready for the next dose, folks. it's good to be back home.

The El Cid Show Freakin' ROCKED!!!!

We are so grateful to Michael Anderson over at Stereo-9 for putting these shows together. Much thanks and love goes out to that guy. He's a good man, and quite the mad dancer at the end of a long night.

El Cid is such a gorgeous location to play, we just feel lucky to be there every time. We'll be back there, hopefully in July, just as soon as Julio gets back from smarty-pants school in Switzerland. In the meantime, ya'll can get over there for dinner and the Flamenco show!

There was so much love in that room for the show it was overwhelming. Thanks to all of you who made the trip.... even the one's who came late. It's the thought that counts. Thanks for your time, your support, your energy. We really appreciate it.

Yeah... so... the Burbank gig got cancelled due to some rich folks renting the joint to have a private party, or make a movie, or do whatever it is that the rich do when they rent their own private spaces to do their own private things.

And it's all good!

That gives us some more time this weekend to work on our album!

That's right! I said ALBUM!

We've been laying down tracks with our new bassist, Jeff Jones, and Dave Salardino from Ukefink has been throwing down on the drums for us. It all started with the wild idea of taping one of our rehearsals, and now it's evolving into one quality DIY coming at you live from the Echo Street complex!

So, so, so.... we're hoping to have something ready to go, perhaps by the El Cid show on the 17th, and if not then, hopefully before Julio sallies forth for her month of PhD studies at the European Graduate School in Switzerland.

Did we mention that? It's gonna be Reverend Doctor JuliaChrista soon....

Lord help us all.

Hey there. What are doing?

I'm gonna go see APEYGA tear it up at the Club Good Hurt on Venice Blvd tommorrow night (Tuesday April 27th) and I suggest you do the same.

And then... I'm heading over to Mr T's Bowl to see Lisa Dee throw down with Killsonic at the open mic.

The Evangenitals might be testing some new country gold as well, time permitting.

Come along, baby. Come along.

I've been in a bit of a funk since my little buddy got stolen at the Fuzzard show on the 28th of May, 2004. That's right, some heartless bastard decided to steal a defenseless 1/2 sized child's guitar, right before our set. The show, however, had to go on... and I just borrowed Doc's full sized metal string plug-in and did the best I could.

Yesterday a brand new buddy came in the mail, thanks to the magic of the intra-web and Ebay, and we are back in action once again!

Brett and I went out on the town last night, all the way out west to the the Rainbow Room to catch Apeyga playing a rare acoustic set. Traffic sucked my ass, I hate Hollywood, etc etc and we got there in time to hear the last 4 bars of their final song. Human tornado that I am, I demanded an encore, and I got one. Good thing too... they rocked my socks! We're hoping to get them on the May 17th card at El Cid.

An unexpected treat of the evening was Foul Play. The front-man, Sam, has got to be legally insane. He's a performance artist, man. It's beyond music. It's an experience. Slightly scary, as is all newness. A novel experience. We've got their digits, and will be putting together a massive throw-down at Mr T's sometime soon. Real soon. Keep your ears out for it.

Man oh man... it's starting to get crazy....

Both the show at Taix and the El Cid gig were incredible! Thanks to everyone who came out...

The audience was enthusiastic and seemed to be real into the vibe we brought along. We had a blast. We felt the love, gave it out. And we're doing it again!

Our next shindig is tomorrow night, Thurs Apr. 15th, at Mr T's Bowl in Highland park. We're playing with a big Country/Western band called Fuzzard. The evening's entertainment commences at 9:30ish, and we will probably be going on about 11pm. It's late... but it's FREE!

There is a very cool flyer attached to this email. Please note that American Standard has been replaced by Molly Bryant, due to scheduling problems...

The next planned shin-dig after that looks like May 10th, back at El Cid, compliments of Stereo-9. The plan is that we'll be playing with Substitute Universe, Ukefink and Whiskey Biscuit... ALL are really fun and incredible bands. That should be one hell of a show. A great line up. Good music. Good people.

Come-n-get-it!

Holy Moly.... the show on Sunday was out of control!

Dirt Bike Annie are Rock Gods. Seriously. They bring along synchronized moves, a light show, and a bubble machine... what more could you ask for? Every song is non-stop harmonized good-vibe hard ROCK. It was just fucking swell that they dropped by Mr T's and threw down a free show.

Thanks to everyone who came out. If you missed it... that's too bad. The line-up was sweeeeeeeeet. Evangenitals starting out slow and soulful, building into Ukefink, who took it to another level. Then DBA rocked our socks off, and Killsonic catapulted us into outer space.

Good times. Good people.

Next up: Friday April 2nd at the Taix Lounge in Echo Park with Setting Sun, Eagle and Talon, & Eric Layer. Feel the Passion.

It's a free show, so your excuses for not coming are limited. We'll be preparing for the Big Gig at El Cid... which you can RSVP for over on Evite: http://www.evite.com/pub/juliachrista/elcid

And don't forget that DBA is rolling around all over the place doing the tour thing... so check out their site and see when they're coming to your town.

AND HERE WE GO AGAIN....

On Sunday March 28th 2004 my friend Dan Paquin and his band Dirt Bike Annie are swinging through Los Angeles on their Left Coast tour and making a pit stop with the Evangenitals at our favorite local hot spot.... Mr T's Bowl.

Needless to say, we are excited as a bunny in heat about this one.

Last time I saw Dan and the Band were back in the It Ain't Easy Being Stupid days when we were but children in New York City. And we've all grown since those days, I assure you... oh, how we've grown.

The line-up for the night is red hot home-town action with the Evangenitals kicking off the evening, followed by UkeFink, our special guests DBA, and our part-time lover band: Killsonic.

This shit is gonna rock your socks.

Be there or be squared.

No excuses.

For the love of the Jesus, man... it's a FREE SHOW!

Come on, now. 9pm. March 28th. Mr T's Bowl. You can do it.

xoxo

RIDING ON THE SHORT BUS

AND HERE WE GO...

Show #1: Born on the 4th of July.

We launched the world tour in the middle nowhere, also known as the Anza-Barrego desert, just east of the Ocotillo Landing Strip.

The Location: a straight out of the 60's isolated desert house which hosted a 3 day Freedom Festival, featuring the Evangenitals.

First things first, I need to introduce our old friend and new drummer, Brett P. (Brett, you may recall, was the inspiration for the song, "The Pangs") Brett has boldly stepped up and stepped in where our old drummer Dubious dropped off. Dubious Dee, Lisa's adopted brother and an original member of the band since 1993, was having himself a bad case of Moral Outrage and Wanderlust when we saw him last, sometime around September 10th 2002. Still no word from Dubious, folks. He wasn't kidding about joing the Zapatista's, and I shudder to think what the fates have in store for a 5'4" transvestite heading for the jungles of Ixtapa in full fatigues.

It was a wild and rambling week of Music, Meditation, and as always, The Challenges.

It's a tradition of the Evangenitals to Challenge ourselves; good, hard, and often. These may be feats of a physical nature, risk taking, withstanding or avoiding pains, dares and double dares, projects to further the development of social skills, switching of instruments and identities within and without the band, and pretty much any zany trick that we think will expand our understand of and respect for the human experience.

Some of the 4th of July highlights:

*Lisa Dee shattered a glass bottle of Cactus Cooler by singing a high note.
*Julio walked a stark naked mile in 120 degree desert heat.
*Brett jumped 7 feet in the air. I shit you not.
*Team Evangenital challenged all of the Anza to High Stakes Backgammon.
*Lisa and Julio entered the Barrego LowRider competition (with Ramon's '62 Lincoln) and placed 3rd.

(Some photos of the Anza-Borrego Show are posted here)

As far as the show goes.... it was the Ultimate Challenge.

24 hours of non-stop Evangenital action. It rocked. Hard and quiet like a good lovemaking session. We played a 3 hour and 47 minute version of "pussy" which some kid from Escondido recorded for the bootleggers. I must say that the new acoustic sound really compliments the emotional pitch of our music. No one seemed to miss the glam-band extremity of the last tour. We travel light these days, with 3 nylon-stringed guitars and Brett's home-made, found-object drum kit.

The Red Demon takes us anywhere we want to go.

Lisa is a bit superstitious and almost cancelled the whole show due to the foreboding dead skunk which appeared next to the Samurai on the morning of our departure. We agreed upon accepting it as a warning to pack extra water as proceeded as planned.

This whole Anza-Barrego Independence Day Music Festival was organized by an Evangenital fan, Ramon. Ramon works at the Christmas Circle gas station in Barrego and has never been able to make it to a live show. We received a letter from him a couple months ago and the whole thing started as a joke about how insane it would be to play for 24 hours straight in 120 degree heat and who the hell would be crazy enough to drive for hours into the middle of the desert to hear a rock show. Well, there are a lot of crazy people in this world, and a few hundred of them were in the Barrego desert this weekend.

Ramon actually had to work through most of the festival, but he told us he could pretty much hear the music from the station. Sounds carry in the desert. We're working on a special song right now, "Postcards to Ramon" which pretty much sums up our feeling for him, heat, and the Anza-Barrego. We were trying to figure out what Anza means in Spanish... and haven't had any success yet. So far all we know is that it was a dude, Juan Bautista de Anza, and we are entertaining notions of following his expeditionary trail, al reverse.

We'll shall see.
